I will forever drive hours away to get to my clients home. Load and unload twice with no light load, I might add. I wake up, load my van and take off with a tea in my hand. Listening to sermons and putting on some praise music. I tend to pray as I drive to my clients home. I pray to God that baby is nice and sleepy and that I capture amazing images for mom and dad.
Once I get to clients homes, I unload. I take my shoes off at the door and set up for the session. Soon after I get to cuddle babies and pose them safely. Each baby is unique. Not every baby likes posing a certain way. I take everything into consideration and get a feel to what the baby likes. After all, they are my boss babies.
Capturing newborn sessions is more than me showing up with a camera. It takes a few days to make sure I capture what mom envisions with a mix of my style. I sanitize, make sure props are clean and safe as well as get all props ready. I lay every prop down, as if I was about to do the session with my doll and wrap her to make sure everything matches. Not all sessions are the same and I mix and match a lot!
At the end, all the hard work pays off but I am not done just yet. I load the gallery onto my computer. Back up the images a few times and then start culling down to edit. Once I edit, I take about 10 minutes on each image. Baby acne, red/yellow skin and smooth skin fixtures are added or corrected.
Since I am an all-inclusive photographer right now, I then load the entire images to a private online photo album. There is where I miss meeting up again with clients. I love seeing their reactions. But for now, all I can do is imagine how excited and teary-eyed they got.
Because at the end of my job, memories were created and details were forever captured.
